Job Title: Director of Finance
Salary Range: £110,000 to £120,000 per annum
Responsible to: Chief Executive/Clerk
Located to: London (At least 3 days a week with flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week)
 
Hours: 9:30am to 5:15pm (with some flexibility available)
 
The Role
The Director of Finance is the Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to the Clerk (CEO), they are responsible for the executive lead on all finance and investment matters and accountable to the Court. They act as principal strategic adviser on finance to the CEO/ Clerk and the board.
 
The Director of Finance leads the Finance Department and is responsible for the department’s work, including Statutory Accounts, Budgets, Management Accounts and overseeing the Company’s and Charity’s investments. The Director manages a current team of seven, covering functions of Financial Reporting, Financial Accounting, Payroll and Credit Control.
 

Duties & Responsibilities
 
Leadership & Strategy
▪ Advise the CEO/ Clerk, board and Committees on financial matters.
▪ Lead and manage the Finance team, providing direction, feedback and support.
▪ As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contribute to strategy and decision-making,
ensuring the Company’s continued financial well-being.
 
Financial Management
▪ Prepare and oversee budgets for the Company, Charity and Centre.
▪ Maintain a true, accurate record of the Company’s assets, liabilities, income and expenditure
and of any other financial matter, and ensure suitable financial controls are in place.
▪ Prepare the Statutory and Non-Statutory Accounts and manage the external audit processes
of the Company, its Charities and defined benefit pension scheme.
▪ Provide management accounts and forecasts for consideration by the board and the Senior Leadership Team, and any other financial reports for the good management and control of the Company’s operations and investment transactions.
▪ With the Head of HR, supervise the Company’s payroll and pension schemes.
▪ Tax planning management for the Company and its charities.
▪ Oversee financial control and reporting for the Company Charity.
▪ Oversee financial control of The Assay Office with provision of financial information to the Assay Office Management Board.
▪ Serve as secretary of the Finance & Risk Committee (overseeing agendas, papers and minutes).
▪ Take responsibility for financial risk management and insurance.
▪ Approve bank and BACs payments in a timely way.
 
Investment & Property
▪ Act as lead executive for the Company’s Investment Committee.
▪ Undertake due diligence of investment opportunities.
▪ Liaise with the Company’s investment advisers on property, private and quoted investments.
▪ Act as secretary to the Investment Committee and property sub-Committee (overseeing agendas, papers and minutes).
▪ Prepare reports for the Board and Assistants as required.
▪ Monitor and maintain cash deposits in accordance with the requirements of the Company and charities.

▪ Maintain banking and investment manager relationships and dealing with KYC.
Compliance
▪ Provide information and advice to the board, the CEO/ Clerk, the Investment Committee
and the Assay Office Management Board on financial matters, including taxation.
▪ Ensure compliance with all legislation around financial matters, including corporation tax,
VAT, employee taxes, business rates, FATCA, CRS, PCIDSS, auto-enrolment and money
laundering prevention and the Charities Acts.
 
Other Duties
▪ Direct the ongoing development of the Company’s financial reporting, including ensuring relevant IT systems and software are fit for current purpose, and contribute to the Company’s IT strategy and implementation.
▪ Serve as director of investment holding company and dormant companies.
▪ Serve as Trustee of the Silversmiths & Jewellers Charity.
▪ Deputise for the CEO/Clerk as required.
▪ Any other duties, as required by the CEO/Clerk or board.
